"The Shining Cloth: Materials and Meanings"

Professor
Rivers has taught in
the design program at UC, Davis since 1980. She is engaged
in textile research ranging from the producing and exhibiting of
dyed and embellished textile artworks, to researching and
publishing subjects on South and South East Asian textiles and
curating exhibitions. Her book,"The
Shining Cloth,"
concerns textiles used by cultures throughout the world to
augment their social and ritual lives. Her book examines
these phenomenon, emphasizing the use of embellishments such as
gold and silver, metals, sequins, beads, mirrors, shells,
feathers and other materials.
